ThrillerList is a catalog and discovery site for thriller novels, operated from the United States. This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected when you use the site, how that information is used, and the choices you have regarding your data.
Information we collect
Analytics
We use PostHog to understand how people use ThrillerList. Our analytics are configured to operate without cookies or persistent visitor identifiers.
The information we collect through analytics may include the page viewed, the date and time of the visit, the referring page or website, and general information about your browser and device.
PostHog may use information such as your IP address and browser type to generate a temporary, one-way identifier for estimating daily visitor counts. That identifier is recreated each day and is not stored in your browser or used to recognize you across different days.
We do not use session recording, surveys, or automatic event capture. If you are logged in to ThrillerList as an editor, the analytics script is not loaded.
Server logs
Like most websites, the server that hosts ThrillerList automatically records basic information about requests made to the site. This may include your IP address, the page requested, the date and time of the request, and your browser's user-agent information.
These logs are maintained by our hosting provider for a limited period. We use them for security, troubleshooting, and investigating abuse. We do not combine server logs with analytics data to create visitor profiles.
Cookies
ThrillerList uses one functional session cookie named pw446s. It is created by the software that runs the site and contains a randomly generated session identifier.
The cookie does not contain your name, email address, browsing history, or other personal information. It is marked Secure and HttpOnly and is not used for analytics, advertising, or tracking.
We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.
If you contact us
If you contact us through our contact form, we collect the information you provide, including your email address, the subject of your message, and the message itself.
We use this information to receive and respond to your message. We do not add people who contact us to a mailing list or use their contact information for marketing.
Contact form submissions are sent to us by email, and a copy is stored on our server so that messages are not lost if an email delivery fails.
The form also uses automated measures to reduce spam and abuse. These include submission timing, message analysis, and rate limiting. For rate limiting, your IP address is converted into a one-way, keyed hash rather than stored directly. That value expires after approximately one hour.
How we use information
We use the information described above to:
- Operate and maintain ThrillerList.
- Understand which pages and features visitors use.
- Improve the site's performance and usefulness.
- Diagnose technical problems.
- Prevent spam and abuse.
- Respond to messages sent through our contact form.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information.
- We do not use visitor information for targeted advertising.
- We do not build advertising profiles or track visitors across unrelated websites.
- We do not use advertising networks, retargeting pixels, or social media tracking pixels.
- We do not use personal information submitted by visitors to train machine learning or artificial intelligence models.
Service providers
A limited number of service providers process information on our behalf:
- PostHog provides website analytics as described above. Our implementation is configured to be cookieless and not to maintain a persistent visitor identifier. Analytics data is processed using PostHog's United States infrastructure.
- Our hosting provider operates the servers used to deliver ThrillerList and processes ordinary server requests and access logs.
- Our email provider processes messages submitted through the ThrillerList contact form so they can be delivered to us.
We do not provide visitor information to these services for their own advertising or marketing purposes.
International visitors
ThrillerList is operated from the United States, and the service providers described above may process information in the United States. If you visit the site from another country, information associated with your visit may therefore be processed outside your country of residence.
How long we keep information
- Analytics data is retained according to our analytics provider's retention settings and is not associated with a persistent visitor identifier.
- Server logs are rotated and deleted according to our hosting provider's retention schedule.
- Contact messages are retained for as long as they remain reasonably useful for correspondence or recordkeeping and are deleted when they are no longer needed.
- Hashed IP information used for contact-form rate limiting expires after approximately one hour.
We do not keep personal information longer than reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights relating to personal information we hold about you, including the right to request access, correction, or deletion.
ThrillerList intentionally collects very little information that can be associated with an individual. Most website analytics cannot be connected to a particular visitor because we do not maintain a persistent visitor identifier.
If you have contacted us, however, we may have information associated with your name or email address. You may contact us to ask about that information or request that it be corrected or deleted.
We do not sell personal information.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Some browsers can send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals. ThrillerList does not track visitors across unrelated websites, sell personal information, or use visitor information for targeted advertising. These signals therefore do not change how ThrillerList handles your information.
Children
ThrillerList is a book discovery site intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If you believe a child under 13 has submitted personal information through the site, please contact us so that we can delete it.
Links to other websites
ThrillerList contains links to websites operated by other organizations. Once you follow a link to another website, that site's privacy policy and data practices apply. ThrillerList does not control how external websites collect or use information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our data practices or the services we use change. When we make a material change, we will update the date at the top of this page. The current version of the policy will always be available on ThrillerList.
